DAY 20

This is it, my last day on The Pennine Way. I can’t wait to get going. We say goodbye to Brian and Lester – we stayed at the same B&B – and off we go. No rain today but everywhere is wet through and it’s very misty. No views and uphill back to the path. Once on the path it was very uphill too. Got to the Cheviot turn off and kept going. Although the sun was trying to come out we knew that there would be no views from the top and I wanted to get to Kirk Yetholm. We had lunch at the other Mountain Refuge Hut, another cosy, solid one. The sun was out. Our last really steep climb was the Schill and boy was it steep. The mist was now gone completely and we got a good view of the surrounding hills. The downhill bit was nearly as hard work as the uphill and we finally crossed the border into Scotland at 1:15pm. We took the lower path and walked into Kirk Yetholm  at 3:07 pm. FANTASTIC. I’ve done it, I’ve walked The Pennine Way. We walked into the Border Hotel and had our free drink. Paul one of the Belgians was there too. Later on Brian and Lester turned up. We signed the Pennine way book and read what other friends had put. It would have been nice to see them but this was the next best thing. YIPEE! - I’VE DONE IT.
