DAY 19

Started the day in waterproof coats at 8:30am. Very uphill through the trees to start, then just uphill. We had to put our over trousers on at the top of Byrness Hill and the weather just got worse. It was cold, wet and windy and so we didn’t see much when we got to Chew Green. We popped in and out of Scotland briefly – weather no better there either. The Mountain Refuge Hut on Saddle Hill was good. Very cosy inside despite it being awful outside. Signed the visitors book and saw the entries from the Edlingtons and Matthew. I know why Windy Gyle is called that now – it’s very windy there! We had to come off route for the night. Tomorrow is the last day.
