DAY 18
To start the day our landlady sponsored
me so now the total is £1510. We started walking at 9:30am, another very hot
day. We saw the group from Wigan today and also
Matthew. The walk started over moorland but we were soon in the Kielder Forest. The first bit was in and under
the trees and I put my foot, ankle deep, into a very wet patch of ground. My
shoulders were really aching today and I struggled with my pack for a while. We
met up with Matthew again and walk the rest of the day together. Half of the
forest has been cut down so we had a very wide, open track to walk along for
most of the afternoon. We all went to the pub that evening for dinner and met
some more people doing The Way. There were two men from Belgium, Jan
and Paul, and another couple called Brian and Lester. As most of them were
doing the next part as one long day we all said our goodbyes that night. It was
sad saying goodbye to Matthew. I did make a new friend in the pub garden
though, a lamb who let me feed it some grass and give it a fuss. It bit my Dads
fingers though!
